So at NU we get out early so we can fit two half-semester in during our summer. We all go to school basically year-round–I know, gasp. My trip to Egypt is therefore class time, but instead of classes in Boston (and paying room&board) I’m taking classes in Cairo. So I’ve got about a week and a half left until I leave (May 7), and then it’ll be six weeks in Egypt. Once I return I’ll have a couple weeks off until I start my first co-op on July 9 at Amnesty International in Somerville. I’ll do that for six months, while living in WVA (translation: on campus), and then for spring semester I’ll be in class again. Does that make sense? I feel like I just keep rapidly explaining it to everyone I see. Being at home in Reading means I keep seeing even more people who have no clue how Northeastern works. The most popular question: aren’t you on trimesters? Nope, not since the 70s. And definitely not since the last time you asked me.
So what am I doing to keep busy? I already have homework, for one. I’m reading up on Egypt for assignments as well as cuz it’s just a good idea at this point. I’m feverishly attempting to improve myArabic conversation quotidienne, when my brother’s girlfriend deftly pointed out that my skills are nul. I don’t even know how to say bathroom. But don’t worry, I know how to talk about my TA or the seasons. I’m sure Autumn is often discussed in the Middle East.
I’m currently compiling a list of adresses so I can make labels for postcards. This way I figure there’s an outside chance I’ll actually send them. If you want a postcard, comment with your adress. Other than that I’m unpacking, sorting and repacking. I’m pretty much constantly doing laundry and answering questions from various concerned relatives or family friends. I’m trying to figure a way t add my itinerary so you can follow along, I’ll keep you posted. Also, I’m deciding what to do for my independent research project, so let me know if you have any ideas.
